The philosophy

Breakouts don't start on the skin. They start with stress.

Under pressure, skin makes more cortisol — the stress hormone. Cortisol is where the oil, the congestion and the breakouts begin.

01Stress fires cortisol and androgens — the oil glands go into overdrive.
02Cortisol raises inflammation, thickens the follicle and unsettles the microbiome.
03Oil, congestion and breakouts follow — which are, themselves, stressful.
04And the loop turns again. Every product before this scrubbed at the oil — the effect, never the driver.

For fifty years, we treated the smoke. CLEARIST CTX reaches the fire — cortisol, the one point everything else ignores.

The four axes of action

Four drivers. One complex.

Congestion and breakouts have four drivers in the pore. CLEARIST CTX answers every one.

01
01 · Keratinisation

The blocked pore

Cells build up and trap the oil inside.

When the cells lining the pore over-produce, they obstruct it — the first step toward congestion.

CTX answerMandelic and succinic acid concentrate inside the follicle. Lentil extract normalises turnover and refines the appearance of pores.

02
02 · Sebum

The overflowing gland

Hormones push the glands to over-produce.

Androgens drive excess oil and shine. The enzyme 5-alpha reductase is the switch that keeps it flowing.

CTX answerGABA, a neuro-relaxing amino acid, eases oil to the surface — needle-free. Zinc PCA and sarcosine quiet the enzyme at the source.

03
03 · Bacteria

The imbalance

In a blocked, oily pore, one microbe takes over.

The bacteria behind breakouts are normal residents — until an oil-rich, blocked follicle lets them proliferate and inflame.

CTX answerLevulinic acid destabilises them at the membrane. Lactococcus lysate trains the skin's own defences instead of stripping the barrier.

04
04 · Inflammation

The flare

The redness, the swelling, the mark left behind.

Blockage, altered oil and bacteria trigger inflammation — and, over time, marks and recurrence.

CTX answerTephrosia purpurea modulates cortisol at the source. Bisabolol and HS soy soothe redness and comfort sensitised skin.

The actives

A formulary, not a hero ingredient.

Aesthetic-medicine mechanisms meet the science of psychodermatology. A few of the actives at work:

Anti-cortisol · psychodermatology

Tephrosia purpurea

The botanical the CTX is named for. It regulates how skin cells make cortisol — the driver of oil and inflammation, and the one point everything else ignores.

−70%
cortisol production in skin cells — in vitro, ELISA, at 1%
Sebum · aesthetic medicine

GABA & Sarcosine

GABA is a neuro-relaxing amino acid that eases oil to the surface — needle-free. Sarcosine quiets 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme behind over-production.

−70%
5-alpha reductase expression with sarcosine — best of 100+ tested
Defence · microbiome

Lactococcus lysate

Instead of stripping the skin, it trains the skin's own antimicrobial defences — reinforcing innate immunity against breakout bacteria.

+185%
skin's own peptide LL-37 (cathelicidin); beta-defensin-1 +150%
Sebum · antibacterial

Zinc PCA

An anti-androgenic, antibacterial 5-alpha reductase inhibitor — regulating oil and calming the environment breakouts thrive in.

−65%
5-alpha reductase activity vs control — in vitro (p<0.05)
Resurface · keratinisation

The acid complex

Mandelic, succinic, glycolic and gluconolactone (PHA). Low-solubility acids concentrate inside the pore — refining texture with minimal irritation.

−41.5%
sebum with succinic acid — in vivo vs placebo (p<0.05)
Keratinisation · pores

Lentil extract

Lens esculenta normalises how pore-lining cells mature and shed, so oil flows freely — visibly refining the appearance of enlarged pores.

−20.8%
nucleated cells around pores — in vivo (P=0.0407)

Good to know

Questions, answered plainly.

What order do I use the products in?+
Morning: Cleansing Foam, then GBX Booster, then Balance Gel-Emulsion. Night: Cleansing Foam, then the Exfoliating Care Lotion (leave it on — don't rinse), then the Gel-Emulsion. Use the Instant Correcting Gel on individual blemishes anytime.
Do I need all five every day?+
The Cleansing Foam and Gel-Emulsion are your daily constants. The Booster is a morning step, the Exfoliating Lotion an evening one, and the Correcting Gel is used only as needed. If your skin is sensitive, the lotion can drop to one to three nights a week. Your therapist tailors the exact mix.
Will it dry my skin out?+
No. It regulates oil without stripping — fresh, lightweight, non-comedogenic textures, with the Gel-Emulsion hydrating and rebalancing the barrier so skin feels comfortable, not tight.
My skin is sensitised from acids or vitamin-A treatments. Can I still use it?+
Yes — this is where the range shines. The Mattifying Balance Gel-Emulsion is formulated to soothe skin dealing with the cosmetic side-effects of acid peels and vitamin-A programs, and Tephrosia purpurea answers the stress side. Introduce the exfoliating lotion gradually and tell your therapist what your skin has been through.
Is it for teenage or adult skin?+
Both. Combination, oily and blemish-prone skin at any age — from persistent breakouts in your teens and twenties to the stress- and hormone-driven kind that arrives later, often alongside the first signs of ageing.
Is there an in-salon treatment too?+
Yes. The clinical results come from the full protocol — this home-care range plus the SKEYNDOR+ Protocol, a professional treatment that finishes under DermaLED phototherapy. Explore the CLEARIST CTX treatment →
